An Energy Audit Helps You Know Where Your Home's Efficiency StandsWe all know that paying extra for rising energy costs is aggravating. After all, it would be nice to spend that money elsewhere. Even more important to us Edmontonians is finding ways to be green and reduce our carbon footprint on the environment.

This is where a home energy audit could help. Energy audits can identify those areas of your home where heated and cooled air is escaping thus increasing your carbon footprint on the environment. By finding those areas that are vulnerable to energy loss, steps can be taken to reduce or eliminate them and save you on utility costs.

Energy Audit Process

When performed by a highly qualified HVAC technician, the home energy audit process will follow industry guidelines to identify vulnerabilities in your Edmonton area home. The process should begin with a throughout inspection of your home insulation to determine if it is sufficient enough.

Another area of weakness is air escaping through small gaps in your ductwork. Finding and sealing ductwork gaps will greatly reduce the amount of air finding its way into your home attic.

A blower-door test is critical to the task of finding where leaks are occurring. With a testing united attached to an exterior door, a low-pressure environment is created as air is being pulled from your home. Using a “smoke-pencil” or thermographic imaging device, the technician will scan all areas of your home to find sources of air leaks.

The thermographic imaging device detects surface temperature variations both inside and on the outer envelope of your home structure. By locating and sealing off areas of energy loss, you can be assured that you have done your part to save on future energy costs while reducing your carbon footprint on the environment.
